A busy year has past us

Crazy shit went down. Big politics with the Arab Spring and a series of deaths of prominent people.

People will remember the common ones. Osama, Saddam, Kim Jong, Ghadaffi. Then there was Steve Jobs. That was a load of over hype. Sure he did good things not bad but really he was just a man and Apple is nobodies friend.

So this gets me here: We Had a competition in December and received a few good entries. This one stood out. This man past away only this month. Unfortunate but expected. But fuck he went well. He wrote about his impending death, and pulled it apart to create some amazing stories and articles.

Christopher Hitchens was a man to be reckoned with and the world is better place because of his existence. Apple and Jobs pale in comparison to the insight and beliefs of this one man – His never-ending quest to rid the world of irrationality. He encouraged the world to UNDENK. to look closer, be sceptical and question everything.

With that I say Congratulations to the winner of January’s desktop design. Who’s name wanted to be kept secret for reason I dont understand. They created a desktop that if you look closer reveals a little bit more.

Our good friend deerBLN staged part four of his ongoing group show “deerBLN project” at the Strychnin Gallery in Berlin. Over 80 artists ranging from shit-hot to buckwild have contributed artworks in the size 30 cm x 30 cm, all exploring the same topic: “deer”. Somehow, 5 Undenk pieces snuck in as well. We are featured in the Positive Poster Exhibition – an international poster design competition for graphic design students, professionals and illustrators that aims to connect design and community. Melbourne will be covered top to toe with the winning poster in Feb 2010 following a huge exhibition night at Rooftop Bar, 11th November 2009. This bi-annual competition will spark a movement that will bridge borders and promote positive thought in places that need it most.

It took some time to get me going now i just hope that the postman will get it across the world in time. The ideas are simple typographic executions of some of our favourite taglines, deftly hand cut and sprayed. My favourites would be the “blank walls” and “fighting featurlessness” sprayed with gloss white on white paper. I think it captures the essence of the quotes well. These posters are available for free if you happen to be roaming the streets of berlin around mid June. Otherwise I would be happy to recreate…. at a cost of course!
